“Devotions from the Beach”-Breakfast on the Beach

***This devotional was written once and it did not save so I am rewriting again… UGH!***

“Come and have some breakfast!” Jesus Said

Still Speaking God:

May the words of my mouth(My Fingers)

and the meditations of my heart

be acceptable to you!

AMEN

Todays devotional begins with a story in John chapter 21. Though the main story in chapter 21 is about one of the many fishing miracles of Jesus, this is not the direction todays devotional is going to be focusing on. This story is the third time Jesus has appeared to his disciples since his resurrection. The exhausted fishing disciples don’t recognize Jesus as he stands on the beach. Not until he performs the miracle of the 153 fish did they recognize the living Christ, who then invited them to “Come and have some Breakfast”. After the torture, after death upon the cross, after being laid to rest in a borrowed tomb, after RAISING FROM THE DEAD, after now appearing to the disciples multiples times, and now after yet another miracle… Jesus calls them for an invitation that after all that has lead up to this seams so……normal!

how often do we not see Christ standing in view because we are so distracted by the stresses of what’s going on?

After planning, and scheduling, and working very hard, how often do we not turn to the divine, until it may seem to be the last resort?

Today’s devotional urges us to declutter our minds of the plans, the schedules, and the to-do lists, and take time to look out on the waves and enjoy the sights, sounds, and the mist of the ocean waters, and just take time to sit and have breakfast with the living Christ.

If I am to believe that “God Is STILL SPEAKING”, I must allow my ears to do the listening even when I may not know what words may follow the next. This is how I approach writing of these devotionals. As I meditate on the words i’ve read I begin to type and allow the still speaking God to open up the message in which God wants me to receive in this place and in this time.

Today the message that I am receiving is actually quite literal.

“Come and have some Breakfast”

recently I have been aware that I want to be better and managing my time, and devoting proper consistent periods of my day to being in connection with the Divine. Sometimes we allow our to-do’s, and the enticing pulls of what we need to accomplish, to do just that pull us immediately into those tasks without stopping to make time for visits with the Divine in our daily lives. Today I hear this message as an urging to make a commitment to starting my day off in devotional time, in scripture, in listening to the voice of the still speaking God. Sometimes, we really do know what we OUGHT to do, we just let ourselves get distracted from it.

Oh Great Divine,

Today I hear your urging message. I too long to begin my day within your presence. Help me to be consistent in having breakfast with you! I know how much this will bless my day and the work I accomplish. Im sorry for the times ive been distracted, and have attempted to guide my day without your help, for WITH your help I shall accomplish so much MORE!

In the name of Christ who calls from the shore,

Amen!
